The Praia D'El Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort has had a major site-wide facelift since I last visited and they’ve done a first-class job. The hotel is chic, quiet and comfortable with excellent food and service and particularly pleasant bedrooms, so what’s not to like?

The facelift has made this good hotel even better.

Just a 50-minute drive from Lisbon, the Marriott Praia D’El Rey sits overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the sweeping beaches of Portugal’s Silver Coast. It’s an ideal base for golfers—close enough to the capital for convenience, yet far enough to feel like a quiet escape—and well worth a two or three-night stay to make your golfing itinerary effortless.

West Cliffs, in my opinion, is the best course in the area, requiring constant precision off the tees.

Right on the resort’s doorstep lies the renowned Praia D’El Rey course, a favourite for its mix of lush pine forest holes and dramatic seaside stretches.

Two of Portugal’s most celebrated modern layouts—West Cliffs and Royal Óbidos—are only a five-minute drive away. Together, they form a powerhouse of courses that any visiting golfer will want to experience, offering contrasting styles, world-class design, and consistently unforgettable views.

Beyond the fairways, the resort’s location adds even more appeal. It sits close to the medieval walled town of Óbidos, one of Portugal’s most charming historic sites, and the coastal hub of Peniche, known for its seafood, surf culture, and rugged Atlantic scenery.

Spread across 220 hectares of clifftop land, the resort makes the most of its natural setting, with panoramic vistas across golden sands and the ocean beyond—an inspiring backdrop whether you’re playing, relaxing, or exploring.
