The Journey
If I'd stuck to a “sensible” job, I'd be tucked up in my Madeira hideaway, enjoying quiet retirement. But back in the early 90s, I said so-long-to-sensibility and followed my burning desire for three things: travelling, writing & photography.
Initially, I published a line of photographic calendars — Scottish Castles, The Scottish Highlands, Robert Burns, Ayrshire, and each of the cities of Dundee, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Glasgow. That went well. Then I thought a Scottish Golf title might be a good idea.
“The golf calendar outsold all the others three to one.”
The Deputy Editor of Golf Monthly saw it and asked me to do some photographic work. I told him I could also write and before I knew it, I was jetting off to golf destinations near & far — eventually working for most of the UK golf magazines and similar publications in Germany, Japan, Sweden, Australia, and the USA.
In time, VisitScotland asked me to photograph every single golf course in Scotland — all 587 of them. I produced the content for the Official Guide to Golf in Scotland along with a steady stream of regional guides, books, brochures, and travel features.
It's been a tough job — but someone had to do it.
