Café Imperial: A Grand Experience

More than a century after it opened, Café Imperial remains an unmissable and unforgettable experience in Prague. Stepping inside is like being transported back to the opulent "Grand Café" style of Paris and other European capitals, a tradition that is still very much alive and well in the Czech capital.

The décor is hugely impressive, an architectural gem truly unlike anywhere else. Prepare to be awestruck by the intricate Art Nouveau ceramic mosaics that adorn the walls and ceilings, creating a lavish and unique atmosphere. Every detail, from the grand columns to the ornate lighting, speaks to the café's rich history and enduring elegance. It's a feast for the eyes as much as it is for the palate.

The café's current owner and head chef, Zdeněk Pohlreich, is a culinary icon in the Czech Republic, often dubbed the "Gordon Ramsay of Czech cuisine." A prominent television personality and prolific author, his influence is evident from the array of cookbooks displayed at the entrance. While Café Imperial showcases his masterful take on traditional Czech and international dishes, Pohlreich also presides over other acclaimed establishments in Prague, such as Divinis, an Italian-themed restaurant widely regarded as one of the city's best. But I’ll have to leave that for my next visit.

The view as you step inside.

Whether you're looking for a memorable dinner, a delightful breakfast, or simply a coffee in a truly spectacular setting, Café Imperial delivers an experience that transcends a typical meal. It's a journey into Prague's rich cultural and culinary heritage.
