Make Par, Not War

I’ve done a few features about John Ashworth over the years so he was kind enough to send me a box of goodies... such a nice guy!

We can’t afford models at Linksland… who needs them!

Linksoul is a clothing company with soul, a collective of folks that care about each other and enjoy collaborating whilst generally having a passion for the game of golf.

My latest Linksoul ‘get up’ at Ponta do Sol on the island of Madeira.

BLUE HORIZONS

That’s a highfalutin horizon to be taking aim at - but the inimitable John Ashworth makes it work.

John founded the greatest golf apparel company of all time - Ashworth by name and Ashworth at the helm. Then it got ‘corporately compromised’ as John puts it and he simply walked away!

The brand subsequently lost direction and has been in several hands since. You can read more about John and Linksoul in our latest feature here.

LINKS APPEAL

Linksoul is inspired by California beach culture.

Most of all, it doesn’t scream ‘golf’!

So, what’s different with Linksoul golf gear? Most of all, it doesn’t scream ‘golf’! On the course, it comes over calm, smart and select, comfortable and casual. The feel is light, airy and soft made from quality material that should hold up well against sun, sea breezes and soap suds.

The look is light too with muted colours, mainly pastels and subtle prints that reflect the feel. Whether you’re going down the mall with the missus or meeting your mates for a Friday four-ball, you’re going to feel easy.

SIZE SIGHS

As far as sizing goes, ordering across the internet is a perennial problem. I got a pair of golf shoes, UK 9/US 10 and they’re really interesting and soft to walk in…. but just a pinch tight. At the same time, medium shirts tend to be ‘very generous’. Maybe it’s the difference between US and Medium and Europe!

Whatever the case, all you can do is adhere to the website ‘Size Chart’ and order accordingly. In the case of shoes if in doubt take a half-size larger.

On those shoes by the way! Linksoul teamed up with another independent California company, TRUE Linkswear to create a shoe that is “soft as a sock, water repellent and supportive”. Apart from the slight tightness, these ‘TRUE Knits’ as they’re called, intrigued me for their squeezable padding and notable support for playing. I intend to look closer at TRUE Linkswear for a future feature so watch this space!

Meanwhile, get in touch with the guys at Linksoul at www.linksoul.com.
